His mother came to our studio to declare his innocence a month ago and today Twenty seven year old Edwin "Drive" Flowers and 23 year old Brandon Smith, two of 5 men charged with the murder of 20 year old Randy Coye, were freed of the charge when it was struck today at a pulmonary inquiry in the Magistrate's Court. Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie struck out the charge against Flowers and Smith after she upheld a submission by their attorney, Dickie Bradley, that there was not sufficient evidence against them to send the matter up to the Supreme Court.
In the case of the other three defendants their matter was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. They are 20 year old Kenroy Humes, 21 year old Leon Gray and 23 year old Deshawn Mena.
Coye was bludgeoned and shot at Lord Ridge Cemetery in October 2009. Last month all 5 defendants were freed of the murder charges because there was no case file. But less than 2 days after they were released they were rearrested and charged.
