Twenty two year old Kareem Stevens, an employee of the Ministry of Works who was recently freed of a murder charge, was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm when he appeared today in Magistrate's court.

Stevens pleaded not guilty to the charge. He claimed that he was framed.

Regardless, Magistrate Emmerson Banner explained to him that the court cannot offer him bail because of the nature of the offence and he remanded Stevens into custody until January 6th, 2011.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m on Wednesday December 1st.

The complainant, 16 year old Kareem Martinez, reported that he was walking on Central American Boulevard on his way home and when he reached the corner of Central American Boulevard and Neal Pen Road he was approached by three men riding bicycles. Martinez said Stevens jumped off his bicycle pointed a 9 millimeter pistol at his abdomen and told him quote, "this is a warning to the family."

Martinez said Stevens then put the pistol back in the waist of his pants and he and his companions rode away.
