Twenty year old Elroy McKay, charged with the burglary of the house of Crown Counsel Andrew Bennett, was sentenced to 8 years today in the Magistrate's Court after he was found guilty of the charge based on fingerprint evidence. Magistrate Dorothy Flowers who imposed the sentenced said she gave McKay 8 years because he has convictions for attempted burglary and handling stolen goods.

The burglary occurred in August 2010 in 371 Los Lagos. Scenes of crime technician Angela Wiltshire lifted fingerprints from an entertainment center in the living room. Police sergeant Osman Mortis analyzed the fingerprints and testified that they matched with McKay's fingerprints. McKay gave a statement from the dock in which he said he was working at the time of the incident. McKay entered the house by removing come glass louvers from a window. The items that were stolen included a television set and jewelry.
