$29,423.40 - that's how much the owner of these premium bottles of alcohol will have to pay in a customs fine. But that's when he is found, because the Customs Department today informed us that the charges have been prepared but the persons responsible for it have not been found.
As we reported last night, the Gang Suppression Unit searched an apartment on Lizarraga Avenue. No one was at home, but they found a trove of contraband alcohol and tobacco stuffed inside a black plastic case and a carry on travelling bag.
- The find includes 48 Quarts Sunrise Wine
- 26 Quarts black Label Whisky
- 1 Liter Black Label Whisky
- 6 Liters Baileys
- 1 Quart Grey Goose Vodka
- 8 Liters Absolut Vodka
- 32 Cartons Marlboro Cigarettes
- 11 Cartons Benson & Hedges Cigarettes
- 3 Cartons VOGUE Cigarettes
The items have a total value of just under ten thousand dollars and the fine is three times that. Customs and police believe the items were smuggled out of the Corozal free Zone.
The person renting the apartment whose name is also on the receipts has not been found….
