And while police were accused of brutalizing suspects on the pavement in that area - the family of one 26 year old from San Pedro said they had to drag their loved one out of the Town police station because he could not walk. Reuel Caliz was picked up by police on the 20th. August for theft and when his sister happened upon him at the police station two days later, he was a mess. His mother told us today that she had gone to the police station to pick up a police record when she spotted him:...
Sonia Caliz, police injured my son
"She went inside and say this person dashed on the floor like a dog, so when she saw that it was her brother, then she told the police, what happened with this guy here? Then he answered who are you, and she said I am his sister, so he told her that he needs bail, are you going to bail him? And she said yes I am going to bail him. So, she bailed him, but when she tried to stand him up to get him out, he could not stand because, they had already beaten him so bad. So, she had to call my other daughter and they came in a golf cart and they took their brother home. When they took him home all what he could do was just lay down and he was there, he could not even eat or swallow, because he would choke with the food and then from that, I took him to the poly clinic and the doctor started to examine him, and he said that they killed all the nerves from his knees. The doctor said that probably he will take a long time to walk."

"What all injuries he has?"
Sonia Caliz, police injured my son

"He is traumatize right now, because is not good, because when you speak to him, he can't speak and he is like lost. When you ask him something, he just watches you and he was not like that, so that's the condition that he is in, he can't move a hand and his knees are very dead. If you put him to stand up he would fall right away. Well, I feel so bad; I was telling my husband that we want justice to be done."
We could not videotape Caliz in his condition because though he and his and his family asked us to show that he cannot even stand without his mother holding him, the KHMH continues with its oppressive media policy and told us we cannot video-tape him in the interest of his own health.
Caliz was charged - but according to his mother the charge was dismissed for want of evidence - while his father told us he was bailed and it was adjourned.
