Last night we reported on the shocking case of a police officer who was stabbed by her ex-common law husband inside the Dangriga Police station where she works.
WPC Delia Hyde was on duty yesterday afternoon - when she was stabbed by her ex-common law husband Kent McKenzie - known as Nija Mack. The incident happened a little after midday.
A Commitment warrant was out for McKenzie and he was picked up and brought into the station by Dangriga police. While entering the station, WPC Hyde had her back turned doing some work and that was when, Mckenzie stabbed her twice in the back. Many may rightly be wondering how this man - who should have been under arrest - manage to freely walk in and get a weapon into the police station.
We managed to speak with the victim herself by telephone this afternoon. She told us she is still left in shock and fearful for her life.

"I was at the Dangriga Police Station yesterday working duty from 7am to 4pm. And whilst on duty I had a commitment warrant for my baby's father Kent McKenzie. And on that strength of the warrant my NCO officer sent other officers to go and pick him up and on that strength. And they went and picked him up and brought him to the station, and while I was inside the station, I was asked to hand over a package for a prisoner that got bailed. while doing so I bent down to go into the locker to get out the prisoner log book and that is when he walked into the station and I just felt when I felt two banged in my back like two punch, but it wasn't punches after all, while in the station one of the officers my co-worker said, let's go to the hospital and he said to me, don't lean on the back of chair in the vehicle. I put my hand behind me to see why he said that and then I took a look at my hand and that is when I saw blood. that's when I realized that it wasn't punches I got in my back, it was two stab."

"A little yes, I do because then if he could do this to me inside the police station while I was on duty in my #1 uniform. What could he do me out there on the street, even if I am out there working or not working in civilian clothes, then I could expect that anything else could happen, if he didn't give respect for station, then I mean what else?"
Kent McKenzie also known as Ninja Mack was charged today for attempted murder and use of deadly means of harm. He will be carried to court tomorrow.
We note that the police press office has been unable to circulate a picture of him - even though he stabbed one of their own. In past instances, when harm has been done to male officers, Police have been quick to parade pictures of the accused before the media. But as was made clear by the loose circumstances attending his casual arrest, Kent McKenzie seems to have special privileges in the Dangriga police department.
On the other side of that, a police report stated that the four Police Officers involved in McKenzie's detention - or, we might say, lack of it, have also been warned for Disciplinary Actions that will be taken against them for their Gross Neglect.
