As we told you last night, a teenaged high school student was stabbed to death in Orange Walk Town yesterday.

Biscayne Village resident Darrell Wade was on his way home from New Hope High School when a man stabbed him in the chest. Daniel Ortiz found out more from his family today in Orange Walk:

Daniel Ortz Reporting

Today, the New Hope High School mourned the loss of 18 year-old Darrell Wade Jr., one of their own who was taken from them in an attack executed yesterday just after classes.

They held a memorial service in his honor, and their sorrows were in chorus with his family.

Sarah Wade - Mother of Deceased

"Right now, I am presently at Darrell's school where they are presently doing the ceremony, and Darrell is a loving person. Whoever knew Darrell, or had anything with Darrell, know the type of persons who Darrell was. Whenever you saw Darrell, he is always smiling."

Darrell Wade Sr. - Father of Deceased

"My son was a nice guy mein, and we had lot of hopes in his potential, my wife and I, but it's so sad that it happened that way. It's so sad mein."

Sarah Wade
"There are so many memorable things about Darrell. He was loving; whenever Darrell was to leave the house, he always hugged me and kissed me. All I heard last night in my head was, Darrell who kept on saying 'Mommy, Mommy...' That's was Darrell's words."

Those we spoke to had only good things to say about Wade Jr., and as a result, the brutal manner in which he was killed doesn't match that personality at all.

Sarah Wade
"They were just saying that Darrell was on his way home while he gave his life for his friend's."

Darrell Wade Sr.
"You don't know what they do behind your back; you don't know what happen, you know."

Inspector Julius Cantun - Investigator

"The information that we have thus far is that at around 3:50 p.m., Orange Walk police was informed by Northern Regional Hospital authorities that there was a person suffering from stab wounds. Subsequently, the police visited the Northern Regional Hospital, where they observed 18 year-old Darrell Wade Jr., a student of New Hope High School, here in Orange Walk Town. He's originally from Biscayne Village in the Belize District. Police observed what appeared to be 3 stab wounds on the body. The medical officers tried their best to assist him medically; however, he passed away due to the injuries that he had received. The initial investigation conducted by the Crimes Investigation Branch Orange Walk revealed that sometime around that time, about three, three-thirty pm, the victim Darrel Wade was walking on Stadium Street when he came across two persons who the Police already have in custody. The information we have thus far is that they were engaged in an exchange of words which led to a confrontation and it is strongly suspected that one of the persons we have in custody inflicted the injuries."

Charges may be imminent for the main suspect, but it is hardly any comfort for this family's loss.

Sarah Wade
"It will be very hard; I don't know what will be the next step. I don't know how to start to rebuild, but by the grace of God, I know something will be worked out."

Orange Walk police have recovered what they believe is the murder weapon, a butcher knife. They are waiting on the advice of the office of the DPP, before laying formal charges.
