Yesterday, we showed you a few photos of the police department's brand new digital forensic lab. The lab will be instrumental for the BPD's technology and cybercrime unit to help fight online crime. And today, there was a virtual tour to show the amenities that the lab is equipped with. It's all a part of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime's project to strengthen the Central America justice and security sector capacities to investigate, prosecute, adjudicate and prevent cybercrime and cyber-related offenses online. This lab has been in the works from 2019, after the creation of the Police Cyber Crime Center. Apart from the equipment, the UNODC also facilitated the training of personnel on cyber-related crimes. And today at the virtual tour, the Minister of Home Affairs spoke about the major step that Belize is taking with this lab.

The Commissioner of Police shared similar sentiments and added that the lab will work together with the new cyber laws to, hopefully, put these online criminals behind bars.

And Superintendent Mario Alcoser went in depth about the type of technology they now have and what their capabilities are.

Alcoser added that the technology will be usable inside the lab as well as out on the field.
