And while the Meighan brothers are in custody tonight, an Indian family is hoping that they will receive justice after a mother of two was murdered in San Ignacio.
On Friday night, 29-year-old Ramandeep Mangat was waiting in the family car on Buena Vista Avenue while her husband bought food across the street. According to reports, that's when an unknown assailant fatally shot her. Her husband was reportedly unaware of what was happening until she began screaming and he saw her bleeding out on the ground.
Today Courtney Menzies travelled west and has this story.
29-year-old Ramandeep Mangat and her husband, 34-year-old Gurmeet Mangat, closed their store, Top Shop at 8:00, and headed out to buy tacos at a food stall next to the San Ignacio Resort Hotel.
Gurmeet Mangat parked the car here, and allegedly crossed the street to get the food, and that's when things turned deadly.
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood - Communications officer

"He departed his pickup truck to go and purchase the tacos to go, and about 5 minutes later, he heard a scream from his wife. When he turned around, he saw her trying to exit the pickup. By the time he got to the pickup, she was outside the truck, on the ground, bleeding from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. He claimed that he put her back in the truck and rushed to the San Ignacio Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by a medical officer. So far, investigators have canvassed that area. We know that initially, Mr. Gurmeet was detained for questioning, and I am not certain if the investigators are through with him as yet, but we know that a mystery murder like this is very difficult."
And up until this afternoon, Gurmeet Mangat was still in police custody, and his vehicle, a red Tacoma, was still sitting in the police's parking lot.
But while initially, it was speculated that the husband may have been involved, a woman in the area said she heard a vehicle speed by after the shots were fired, presumably with the shooter. And ASP Yearwood said that Mangat's detention was procedural.

"The husband of the victim, is his information the only source of explanation as to how it was that the victim could have been shot and killed?"
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood
"I wouldn't say that it's the only source, but usually in the murder of this nature, you want to clear the person who was with the victim last, before you know which other direction to go. I am certain that he was only detained for questioning to clear whatever the investigators believe could put him in the clear."
Reporter
"Are you able to confirm a report that no expended shells were on the scene?"
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood
"I can confirm that none was on the scene."
Reports from neighbors say that Ramandeep Mangat was an amiable person, friendly with neighbors. She leaves behind a son and a daughter.
Mangat had reportedly recently moved to Belize to help run the family's store.
