And while police are looking for their latest murder suspect in the West, the compol says they are also waiting to receive info on another one of their most wanted who was detained in the US. Ellis Meighan, wanted for the murder of Roy Lee Burgess and the attempted murder of Maia James, was captured in April at a detention center in San Diego.
It is reported that Meighan's escape from the Placencia peninsula in the house after the shooting was facilitated by a police sergeant, and today the compol commented on that:
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"We have done all that we can in terms of submitting the relevant documents to the US authorities and it's a matter of them to go through the process now and see whether or not they are going to send him back. We had instances before where they have returned wanted persons to us so I am optimistic that the same is going to be done."
Jules Vasquez
"Sir it's widely and to some extent credibly reported that a police officer of rank was the one who smuggled Ellis Meighan off the peninsula that night of the murder and attempted murder, are you aware of this and are you investigating it?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"We are aware of that and that information reach me and the police officer in question who it is alleged transported him out of Placencia has been transferred from there I wish I could do more but the truth is that we don't have the proof to ascertain that he did it, so the lease I could have done was to get him out of Placencia because we don't want to have a situation there we have police officers who are enabling criminals from Belize city or anywhere else to go into Placencia and do what they needed to do and facilitate them out that cannot happen so that officer has been removed from Placencia and if there is anyone who has information to confirm that he in fact transpired Ellis Meighan out of Placencia I'll be more than willing to have that and then we can proceed from there."
