He killed three of his own family members in 2012 - and finally today after so many legal twists and turns, Jared Ranguy was sentenced.

Justice Nigel Pilgrim gave him three life sentences this morning - and here's what it looked like at the courthouse:

Today, Jared Ranguy walked out of court facing the reality of three life sentences. Justice Nigel Pilgrim sentenced him to serve those consecutive for the three lives he took: that of his mother, Karen Skeen, his sister, Teena Skeen, and his stepfather, Robert Vellos.

The 37 year old's sentence amounts to a mandatory 25 more years before he is eligible for parole. He has already served 12

There were some tears for the Skeen family, which was present in numbers as they always are, expressed satisfaction and relief

Krystal Holder Skeen, Family spokesperson

"I would say that were feeling emotional, relieved and grateful that this long journey is finally over and that justice has been served."

"And we have been coming her to these court sessions for 12 years, ahm, some of the family behind me they have been at every court session. So we are relieved."

"However the sentence it does not take away the deep pain that we feel, and that we will continue to feel probably for the rest of our lives, because the absence of Aunt Karen, Tina and Mr Robert is felt every single day and they are dearly missed, but we are grateful for this closure."

Ranguy's attorney Godfrey Smith shared his disappointment in the sentence:

Godfrey Smith, Attorney for Ranguy
"Not the way we would have preferred. With a life sentence you have to server minimum number of years before you can become eligible for parole. But you only become eligible and it would be at the discreition of the parole board, Obviously we would have preferred qa fixed stench and fixed means once you have done a certain amount fo time you would be free."

Also, the Judge did not buy Smith's argument that the triple murderer may have sleep walked when he killed his victims:

Godfrey Smith, Attorney for Ranguy
"The judge carefully considered it and found that without corroboration he was not prepared to accept it. That was one of the main mitigating factors we were hoping, but it was not enough to bail in this instance, so."

Ranguy did not address the court or the family but expressed remorse in an affidavit:

Reporter
"Can you say why Mr Ranguy has not spoken in court and apologized in person."

Godfrey Smith, Attorney for Ranguy
"He's not required to do that, he's put in his affidavit which expressed his remorse. Has he done so in his affidavit. The judge mentioned that and the judge mention that he accepted that remorse indicated in the affidavit."

Krystal Holder Skeen, Family spokesperson
"I think it would have been better if he had spoken to us and apologized. I think that would have meant much more."

For clarity, Ranguy is currently 36 and he will be 37 next week. His sentence is for 37 years, with 12 already served leaving him with 25 before parole can be considered.
