And while that is a major crime in Belmopan - guess what? It won't be added to the police list of major crimes because the amount stolen is just a few hundred dollars and it does not meet the five thousand dollar threshold to be classed as a major crime.
This may be a part of the reason why the public perception of crime does not jibe with the official stats. In fact - as we have reported - a recent poll conducted by Viking Strategies - and commissioned by the Ashcroft Alliance found that crime is the biggest concern right now for Belizeans.
