A police drone deployed after a shooting on South Street two days ago led them to suspect 20-year-old Devaun Garcia as the alleged gunman.

Officers responding to reports of shots fired tracked a male seen on a drone running along George Street. Police say he was observed throwing an object over a fence at the corner of George and Warrior Pond Streets.

A search in that area led to the recovery of a 9mm pistol loaded with 13 live rounds of ammunition. Garcia was detained nearby and later charged with keeping an unlicensed firearm and unlicensed ammunition. In court today he pleaded not guilty. Due to the nature of the offenses, bail was denied. He was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until April 16, 2026.
