And while the local airlines have their issues, so does the Salvation Army. Next Wednesday at noon the Salvation Army plans to feed one thousand underprivileged children and send each of them home with a toy. But that might not happen this year. That is because so far the Army has only collected 200 toys and they need one thousand. That leaves 800 and Regional Commander Major Errol Robateau today made an impassioned plea for the community to chip in.

Major Errol Robateau, Salvation Army
"For next week Wednesday we need a thousand toys without a doubt because that's when we have our children's party and so I am appealing to the public because we really need your help. We know that last year you never let us down and therefore we are asking that you do the same this year."

Keith Swift,
How close are you to that 1,000 toys?

Major Errol Robateau,
"I would say we would be just about 20%. We still have another 80% percent to go."

Keith Swift,
You only have a week left. Do you think you will be able to get the 1,000 toys?

Major Errol Robateau,
"Well we have to because we can't let those children down. It is important. We know that there are people who have promised us toys but they just haven't gotten around to it so I would appeal to them to speed it up because we need it."

If you want to donate toys - you can drop them off at the Salvation Army's Office on Regent Street.
