The Miss African Queen will be chosen tomorrow night at the Bliss Center. There are six contestants, each will be portraying a strong black woman and an African country. It is sponsored by the Concerned Belizean Women and the proceeds will go to charity. We met the contestants this morning and spoke to Pageant Coordinator Birdie Francis.

Birdy Francis, Coordinator
“They will be competing in talent which is called images and they will portraying famous women of African descent. We have the visual part where they will be modelling beautiful African regalia. We also have the question and answer segment where they will be answering the question why they are proud to be a Belizean of African descent. We also have wonderful opening production where they will be an African dance as a group and they will be sharing different countries of Africa, information with the audience.

So we are encouraging everybody to come out and I want them to dress in their regalia, share the culture, support what we are doing because we support women that are disenfranchised, women and children. Our money goes to a good cause.”

Saturday’s pageant starts at 7:30. Tickets are available at the bliss box office at $20 for reserved and $10 for children. Last year $2,500 from the proceeds went to the Mary’s Open Door Shelter in Cayo.
