What role should the University of Belize play?

That's what's being discussed at the 71st meeting for CSUCA, the Central American council for accreditation being held at the Princess Hotel and Casino. The event is being held within the San Carlos/UB conflict resolution conference. For the past four days, the academic illuminati have been making all the news with their searing commentaries at the conflict resolution conference.

But this morning, it was CSUCA's turn and Belize's Minister of Education Hon. Francis Fonseca told regional university heads that the status quo will not do; the modern university must reach out aggressively to the communities it serves.

Hon. Francis Fonseca,
"CSUCA must renew its commitment to expand access because still too few of our people have the opportunity to pursue a university education. Our universities must also renew their commitment to be meaningful participants in the development of our region. On your faculties since some of the best and brightest in our region and these minds must work together to face the challenges of growing equity and poverty which plagues for our region."

The CSUCA conference runs for two days while the conflict resolution conference closes on Saturday.
