On Monday, residents of Lucky Strike Village were properly teed off with the Ministry of Education and the way that it's been managing their toilet facilities. The villagers say that they deserve better and today Minister of Education Francis Fonseca gave his undertaking that before the year is out the school will be getting proper toilet facilities.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education
"They did indicate that obviously the ideal situation would be for us to put in flush toilets, wash basins, and all of that. Those were not there before, by the way. Sure we agreed that would be the ideal situation but it is not something that could be accomplished immediately, that would have to be a part of the whole process of getting water into Lucky Strike, which is ongoing. Water is expected to be available in that community sometime around the end of November or December and at that time, the logical thing to do at that time, is to go to the water system. We were waiting for the water system to be paid and then the school can be hooked up. In the interim, what we did, we did rent some toilets for them, that was an interim measure, and then we went on to repair the latrines that were there. Some of them are better than they were before but obviously we understand the concerns of the residents and they want their school to be hooked up to the water system and when that is possible, we will do it."

The Lucky Strike School serves 120 children from 5 neighboring villages.
