There were no classes at Sadie Vernon High School today – and it is not because of the flu scare – it was because of a mass sickout. That’s right – the school’s roughly 250 students were sent home at 8:30 because only 3 of the school’s 17 teachers showed up. All of the other teachers called in sick.

In fact the principal and her vice-principal had to accompany the first form class on a planned trip to Mountain Pine Ridge today since the teachers who didn’t show up – were supposed to go on the trip. So the principal was unavailable for comment and neither was anyone else at the Ministry of Education.

But from what we’ve gathered – the teachers and school’s board of management are at odds over a number of issues. One of those is the teacher’s representative on the board of management. The person representing the teachers is not who the teachers want representing them. We’ll continue monitoring the story.
