The University of Belize will have a new president.

Dr. Vincent Palacio, the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences will take over leadership as Interim President as of August 1, 2021. He takes over from current President, Professor Emeritus, Dr. Clement Sankat, who leaves office tomorrow. Dr. Sankat has led the national university for the past 4 and a half years - but his days were considered to be numbered once the PUP was elected.

Still, he leaves with no public acrimony: The press release thanks President Sankat, a regionally-renowned academic, "for the implementation of the Transformational Plan and his leadership, dedication and contribution to the development of Belize's National University."

His replacement, Dr. Palacio is only temporary. He will guide the institution while the Search Committee recruits a new President.
