It's one of the country's premier hotels and casinos, but right now, anyone who goes to the Princess will be greeted by a mountain of garbage. This is what was left behind this afternoon when Belize Waste Control workers swooped in to take away one of its industrial sized garbage containers.
Waste Control owner Tony Griffith confirmed to 7NEWS that he instructed his workers to go in and claim the container, and to bring it back empty because that's how they left it there in September. That meant tossing out the garbage right there in the parking lot.
Griffith says he had to do it because Princess owes him seven thousand dollars he says the hotel's management has been ignoring him, dodging him and has made no move to pay. He says they haven't paid since September, and now they allow an illegal garbage operation take out the garbage.
But because of the volume of garbage, Griffith says the other operators could only take the surface garbage. That left the container stuffed deep and that's the stuff that Waste Control workers threw out into the parking lot today. When we went to tape it today, from the street, a security guard tried to force our cameraman to stop.
According to the General Manager of the "Princess GLH", Victor Gomez the blame is with Belize Waste Control. He says the company is responsible for the environmental issue, but they haven't been doing their job. He says the mess should be cleaned up within the next hour or so.
Griffith says he'll be taking the princess to court to get back the $7,000 that he's owed.
