In our last segment, we told you about the major initiatives that are being launched during an official visit from the President of the Caribbean Development Bank and his Delegation.
Well, these aren't the only VIPs that the Prime Minister and his Cabinet are hosting. Representatives of the Government of the United Kingdom are in Belize for a 5-day visit which will conclude tomorrow. Those officials include James Smith, the Deputy Director of International Marine Environment at the UK's Department of Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs.
Deputy Director Smith, his delegation, and the British High Commissioner had sit-down meetings with members of the Briceno Government to discuss the UK Government-led programme known as the Ocean Country Partnership Program (OCPP).
This project is focused on reducing the plastic pollution that is impacting the world's oceans. According to the British High Commission in Belmopan, Belize is the first country to partner with the UK Government on this initiative.
