Baby Tevin Knocked Down Two Years Ago; Today Cop Walks
PC Marvin Mckoy is a free man tonight after the court upheld a no case submission made by his attorney, Hurt Hamilton.
Mckoy is the cop who was accused of hitting a 2-year-old child with his police pickup truck back in 2018. It was a story that tugged on the heartstrings of Belizeans, who were hoping that Tevin Cacho would pull through. He did, but his face was disfigured.
Eight months after the incident, PC Mckoy was charged for negligent grievous harm. But today in court, the question that was raised was how the toddler sustained his injury and Head of Prosecution, Alifah Elrington, was unable to prove how and by whom. As such, the no case submission was upheld by Magistrate Albert Hoare, who ruled that there was no evidence to suggest that PC Mckoy or anybody else committed the offence - even though it was caught on camera.
On the night of the incident, Baby Tevin's mother, Shereema Moody, was celebrating her birthday on Iguana Street when she left the toddler in the care of a friend as she crossed the street to buy at a store. Surveillance footage showed the toddler trying to cross the street to reach his mother, and that's when a police truck came down the street, crushing him.
