And while the entire country is contending with the power shortage, Cayo is dealing with a regular but unwelcome May occurrence. Forest fires are fogging up the air.
The air quality index in San Ignacio this evening was at 156 which is considered unhealthy.
The mayor of the twin towns told us that the smoke from Forest fires is rolling into the town from the mountains but that he finds it tolerable at this point.
He warns however that he expects it to get worse.
