In July of this year the Living with Hope project organized an all day radio and telethon in which it solicited and collected just under $100,000 from the Belizean public for helping children who are afflicted and affected by HIV/Aids. Simultaneous with that event in Belize, a radiothon was held in the U.S. by the Consortium for Belizean development. Today the President and the Executive Secretary of the organization delivered some $10,000 gathered from their drive. They told us that Belizeans in the U.S. gave generously.

Vernone Burks,
"We here to deliver a check for $10,150 to the Living with Hope foundation and that foundation was one that asked us in July to assist them with their fundraiser and we jumped onboard and wanted to be a part of helping Belize."

Lavern Smith,
"We do have a lot of people that made pledges and so far we have collected most of the funds but there are still funds that we are collecting and those people are coming forward."

Vernone Burks,
"When we were approached to do this it was with no regret. We just wanted to be a part of anything that would make a difference for Belize and especially when the letter was written as making a difference for children affected and infected by Aids, it was our pleasure to be a part."

Burks and Smith say they still have pledges that they need to collect on amounting to just over $6,000. When they've completed the collection, they'll present the check to the Living with Hope project.
