October 16th is World Food Day but in Belize it was observed today with a fair. The theme is "promoting healthy and delicious food" but today the message we got was far more serious.
Merna Trejo, Organizer
"World Food Day is set aside so that we can remember that there are so many people that are less fortunate, they have great needs. And so we set this day aside in which we could acknowledge that and let the people come back to the remembrance that we can join hands and meet the needs that will satisfy and just put an end to hunger, there is a lot of that in this world today."
Jules Vasquez,
Is there some measure of irony that some of the kids who came here from school today did not have breakfast and unless they ketch and kill something out here, they won't have lunch? A lot of our kids are undernourished. Isn't that somewhat ironic?
Merna Trejo,
"It certainly is and we would hope and we would like that the production section of our country along with the industry would join hands together and I am sure if we are able to connect that link, we would see a major change in our society."
