And while lonely number crunchers can curl up for days with the new volume of statistics, in real time, the government is advancing towards NHI implementation.
And in some communities, that could mean that your public health clinic will be coming under new management, private management. 7News has confirmed that in villages like Burrell boom and Ladyville, the public health clinics will be privately managed.
It’s a big change for those communities, but today the Minister of Health told us that all the end user will see is better service.
Hon. Joe Coye, Minister of Health
“Because some of these clinics where they are now, they are not adequate for the NHI, they will need to be expanded under improvement. So what we will do with them, we will rent them out to let them invest in them. We’re not gonna sell them, we will rent them and they will do the improvement on the extensions for those who are tendering for the PCP.”
Jules Vasquez, 7News
“So the public clinics will now be privately managed. Will they still be accessible for free as they presently are by the public?”
Hon. Joe Coye, Minister of Health
“Yes, yes because it’s part of the NHI and we said what we wanted to do is have a mix, on the basis of complimentarity where we have public and private.”
So far government has spent 19 million on health reform, and couldn’t upgrade the polyclinics on its own because – plainly put – it had already spent too much.
