The first baby of the New Year, it's a media tradition that we cover this child of auspicious birthing. And that child is Gennalyn Triana Young, newborn daughter of Maria and Michael Young. Baby Gennalyn weighed in at seven pounds, twelve ounces when she was delivered at 10:08 yesterday morning at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Today I visited with the first Belize City baby of 2008 and her proud mom.
Maria Young, Mother
"To be a first mom it is an amazing thing to like bring somebody into the world. I don't know how to explain it. It brings joy to me."
Jacqueline Godwin,
And how has Gennalyn been since she was brought into this world?
Maria Young,
"She is doing okay."
Jacqueline Godwin,
Was it a difficult delivery?
Maria Young,
"Yes like the pain. It was difficulty. I had to go through a c-section...but it is a blessing from God."
Young says it does not matter if she had a boy or girl she considers the whole experience a true blessing. Both mom and daughter are doing fine and expected to be released from the KHMH on Thursday. Sadly for the first time in a long while there was no care basket given to the New Year's baby. We don't know if the usual sponsor forgot or if it's been discontinued....but that's what it is tonight. If you'd like to help in any way, you can contact Maria Young at the KHMH or you can call cell phone numbers 621 - 1333 or 625 - 1231.
