If all went as planned - 8 year old Moises Acertuna should be out of surgery tonight. He is the boy from Corozal we told you about in March. He stomach was ruptured in a traffic accident in January – severing the connection between his liver and gut. When we spoke to him in March, three months after the accident he was feeble and had already lost 30 pounds because he was unable to eat.
Reverend Tim Tam from the World at Work Ministries flew Moises to the Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. He has been there ever since, mostly making progress while also suffering setbacks. He has gained weight and enrolled in school but it all came down to 6 hours today when he underwent surgery.
These pictures are provided by Rev. Tim Tam and were taken just minutes before Moises was wheeled into the operating room. He told us that Moises was excited and in great spirits. The surgery was expected to take five to six hours during which the doctors at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Texas will attempt to reconstruct that compromised portion of his digestive tract. We’ll keep following the story and will let you know how it goes.
