After 22 fruitless rounds of voting for the Latin American and Caribbean seat on the UN Security Council, Venezuela and Guatemala took a break from the balloting today. According to international press reports, Latin American and Caribbean nations are using the day off to resolve the standoff over their regional seat. So now, the 23rd round, with possibly a new configuration, will be held on Thursday morning. This morning, the Prime Minister made it clear that Belize's position is firm and fast.
Rt. Hon. Said Musa,
"The Belize position is very clear, we cannot support Guatemala so long as Guatemala maintains this unfounded claim to our country. That's the position we are taking, in other words if Guatemala were to drop its claim tomorrow against our country, I am sure our position would change."
