Those who will be traveling through Mexico by land, sea or air, be prepared to hand over five more dollars for the Exit fee. That's right, the fee has increased from $262 pesos in 2011 to $294 pesos - an increase of about five dollars Belize - bringing it to about $45 Belize dollars.
This fee applies to all foreign nationals, including Belizeans, who enter Mexico and stay for over 7 consecutive days, or take 7 days to just pass through.
Transit travelers whose destination is a third country must pay this fee; that includes Belizeans who drive over to Cancun in order to catch a flight to a different country and those arriving to Cancun with a destination for Belize.
The fee must be paid in pesos at any bank in Mexico or in the Mexican Customs compound in Chetumal.
