This morning, a fire gutted a two storey structure on Pickstock Street. The Fire Department was alerted to the blaze just shortly after 7. While they were able to save every building that was surrounding it, the house where the fire started was flattened. Our team was there.
Henry Baizar, Fire Chief
"We got the call this morning around 7:15 and when we arrived here both houses were already in flames. From investigations so far it seems as though the fire started from downstairs at the two-storey structure. There's a two-storey structure and one small structure in corner and it seems as though the fire started from downstairs of the two-storey structure. We fought the fire and we actually brought it under control in about 20 minutes. Two other houses that are adjacent to the fire had partial damage and the house in the rear, the fire went up into roofing and we had to go upstairs and out the fire. But there was very small damage there likewise. The guy who lives upstairs, I don't know if he is the owner, but from what he is saying he was upstairs and he smelled smoke and he says there was no one downstairs cooking or anything else like that. He says apparently no one was downstairs at all so virtually at this moment we can't say what started the fire."
Fire authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. They have however determined that it started in the lower flat of the wooden building.
