And while the City Council learned lessons from Dean, the Prime Minister took a tour yesterday to make his assessment. As we told you that assessment resulted in him taking the decision to declare Corozal a disaster area. Here’s some of what he saw to force him to make that decision.

Keith Swift Reporting,
Yesterday Prime Minister Said Musa, NEMO Minister Godfrey Smith – in his rubber boots, and NEMO Coordinator George Lovell got a firsthand look at areas affected by Hurricane Dean. The walking tour was preceded by a flyover by helicopter. It gave the pm a true bird’s eye view of dean’s path destruction. And while from the air the extent of the damage was hard to grasp – on the ground it was obvious.

And while the Prime Minister greeting children and making small talk with residents -with his media entourage in tow – may make this seem like it was a campaign stop- he was touring a disaster area and he didn’t need the residents to tell him. Dean’s winds destroyed this family’s home and all their possessions are in the front yard. The news wasn’t any better for this woman. And after visiting residents at a hurricane shelter – the Prime Minister continued his aerial tour of the disaster that Dean left.

Leader of the Opposition Dean Barrow was also in Corozal touring yesterday and today he signed a check for $10,000 in assistance and handed it over to Corozal Town Mayor Hilberto Campos.
