Last night you saw a super-heated Phillip Willoughby charging across the market in an ad-hoc consultation that felt more like an interrogation.
The issue was the vendors imminent move off the canal side and into the market's open areas or unto nearby Hiccattee street.
Smart money said it wouldn't work - but it did and today the side of west Collett Canal was clear and clean an unthinkable sight on almost any weekday. Councilor Philoughby reveled in it:
Phillip Willoughby, Deputy Mayor

"It is effective today that all vendors who occupied the canal - side here, are now utilizing all the available space, that were provided within the Michael Finnegan Market. Some of the residents said that they can now drive out of their drive-way. They don't have to see some of them bathing in the canal - side. They don't have to heard some the profanities, the gambling - all, well we don't want to go downhill. I'm not a historian, and I don't want to look at the negative - we are quite satisfied and happy that they are not occupying the Michael Finnegan Market and a big thank you to them. They are quite satisfied. They will be working along with us to enforce with the wholesalers that they abide by the days and the hours that they should be operating on Hiccate Street."
