And while the minister has her hands full with the case of baby Ayana, she also wanted to set the record straight about the custody case involving Destiny Myvett and Human Services.
Yesterday, that aggrieved mother gave the media an interview about a court order which stated that she should get back her baby. She complained that the Department of Human Services had ignored it. They say they are appealing to the high court.
But, Destiny Myvett also made an untrue claim. She said that a baby which a social worker posted on Facebook was actually her baby - and that the social worker was claiming it as her own. That is totally untrue as Director of Human Services Shawn Vargas told us last night. Today, we can confirm as much, and express our apologies for airing her unfounded allegation.
Here's what the Minister said about that case today:
Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Minister of Human Development

"Again I want to caution all our Belizeans about believing something that comes on social media just rushing to believe. Because we have caused to think that the biological mother of the child has not been really honest I also want to see that, although a court order was made by the Belmopan magistrates court, and I will only see this and not more but I am aware because the matter is on appeal so I cannot speak at lent to it but I think I can share with you that the order of the magistrate court was made after a directive was sent to transfer the case to Belize city. I won't say more than that because the matter is under appeal but maybe I could repeat what the commissioner of police said in relation to that case, and that is the families and children's act and our ministry, we are required to do what is in the best interest of our child and because of that responsibility that we have that particular matter is under appeal."
