Exactly one year ago today, the PUP was elected to serve second 5-year term.
Since then the intoxication of "Adelante" and the sexiness of "Caliente" may have worn off, as the "party" was over and the administration had to deal with and deliver on a manifesto which made 217 promises.
While the UDP weighed in earlier this week with an emphatic "F", Prime Minister Musa gave himself a report card today.
Hon. Said Musa, Prime Minister & PUP Leader
"We are showing that education remains the number one priority. Over the past years we have built hundreds of new classrooms, inaugurated many of them and that program continues. The major investment in education continues. We have kept our promise of non-contributory pension scheme to women of Belize, the mothers of this country. We are improving the health system, moving ahead with the NHI, we are seeing a growth in tourism, and creating the enabling environment and we have seen agriculture coming to its own. Across this country I see people in tune with what our government is trying to do and of course they are many problems facing us."
Keith Swift,
"If elections were held today. Would you think your party would have been re-elected?"
Hon. Said Musa,
"I feel confident that we retain the confidence of the Belizean people. Let's not forget that elections are every 5 years and every government must face the issues. We are not docking issues now matter how difficult they are and we need to face them. We are facing tremendous problems and it takes a strong government to face the people. And once they aware of the issues, they will understand that no government can maintain a perfect situation. I am confident we would win again."
To celebrate one year on office, the Prime Minister visited schools to commemorate children's day by planting trees on the compounds of schools in the Fort George division.
