PUP appointed Senator Barry Bowen is resigning from the Senate. 7NEWS today confirmed this from the PUP Chairman of Public Relations Yasser Musa. We however could not confirm it with the Senate which has received no word of his resignation.

According to Musa, Bowen feels it necessary to launch a rather involved public relations battle and wished not to sully the good name of the Honourable House in what may prove to be a somewhat messy battle on the ground. We could not reach Bowen for comment. As is known, he has become locked in a quite bitter dispute with the Unions which want the excise tax on beer taken up from the current mark of $3.60 to over $17 a gallon.
