And one story you didn’t see in there is in fact the biggest story of the entire election. Michael Hutchinson also known as ‘Hutchie’ beat Ralph Fonseca. We’ll venture that it is the greatest political upset of all time, eclipsing even Derek Aikman’s 1984 defeat of George Price. In fact, to find a fitting historical reference, many say you’d have to go back to biblical times, because this one was something like David and Goliath.
Hutchinson is a regular guy, a roots-man, works at BATSUB, campaigns on foot, doesn’t handout money and didn’t have one political ad on television. Fonseca on the other hand, well by his own description, he’s an international jet setter, holds the purse strings for the PUP’s formidable slush fund, runs its campaigns machinery, and numerous reports say, he was giving out Venezuela housing loans and grants by the fistful.
But despite all that, Hutchinson toppled Fonseca, beating him by 192 votes, as he rode the wave of a 16% swing.
