Last month the PUP got leave to apply for judicial review of the Referendum Act, effectively stopping that piece of legislation from being signed into law. That greatly displeased the Prime Minister and today, Government’s special counsel on the case, Lois Young Barrow asked the Chief Justice for leave to appeal that decision in the Court of Appeal. That was denied and the Chief Justice set the substantive hearing of the judicial review case for the end of the month. Today, Special Counsel Young Barrow told us that government is not satisfied and she hopes to renew the application at the Court of Appeal before June 30th.
