There is new information tonight surrounding the still unresolved issue of the cruise solutions contract at Cave’s branch. A letter has been leaked to the media, which is unsigned but attributed to Director of the Institute of Archaeology, Jaime Awe. We were unable to reach him for confirmation of its contents.
But the letter which is on the Institute’s letter head quotes Awe telling Gegg that, quote “we are unable to support your proposal.” First because the institute cannot countenance a private investment on an archaeological reserve; and second, because it would seem to encourage a monopoly at a national park. Again Awe, were unable to reach Awe to confirm if this is indeed a letter that he wrote.
Another communication purports to be an email between Awe and NICH President Dianne Haylock in which he warns about the problems associated with the introductions of a trolley system that Gegg has proposed.
And while Awe’s cautions are important, if they are indeed genuinely his – it should be noted that the government’s legal advisor has warned that there is no archaeological reserve that has actually been established.
