A caucus of City Councillors met with the council’s Director of Finance Dwain Davis today. The meeting took place this afternoon, but we were unable to reach acting Mayor Dion Leslie to ask him how it went. We have however, independently confirmed that the council has decided to suspend three employees based on the findings of the special audit and their own hearing with the employees who were singled out for wrongdoing in the report.
The suspended persons are Financial Director Dwain Davis as well as his former assistant Kiran Bhudrani and Phillip Henry. We are informed that when the council met with Dwain Davis today he reserved his right to comment pending the outcome of the DPP’s investigation.
The council met following the meeting with Davis and voted to suspend him without pay for 6 weeks. Kiran Bhudrani who formerly worked in the Finance Department was suspended for four weeks. Phillip Henry who used to work in the Traffic Department but now works at City Hall was suspended for 2 weeks. The council we are told is awaiting word from the DPP. Last week, the DPP told us that criminal charges against at least one city council employee would be brought this week.
