The budgetary approval process ended today in the House of Representatives and it was memorable not for the elevated parliamentary discourse, instead, what we’ll remember are the classic putdowns. From Barrow on Musa, to Musa right back at him, to Espat on Saldivar. But there was no retort from Saldivar so we teased one out of him yesterday. Here are both sides of that story.
Hon. Mark Espat, Albert Area Rep.
“The member for Belmopan insists from time to time, it seems he cannot help himself in trying to call me out. Well let me tell him once and for all, you have neither the physical nor the mental agility."
Jules Vasquez,
“I know you are a basketball coach, I know that Mark Espat plays basketball regularly, he seemed to have thrown the gauntlet down in there that you’re no match for him.”
Hon. John Saldivar, Minister of the Public Service
“Well that we can take on the side and I have no problem challenging him. I will bring my over 35 team and see if he can hold on to his title.”
No indication yet from Espat if he’ll take up that challenge – we’ll wait and see.
