The data gathered from CENSUS 2022 is also very important to the Redistricting exercise that has been initiated by the Elections and Boundaries Commission. Last night, we showed you the comments from Chief Elections Officers Josephine Tamai, on what is expected from the Task Force that has been appointed to try and correct the imbalance in electoral divisions.

The Chief Elections Officer also noted that the Taskforce will need information from the Statistical Institute of Belize. The press asked Acting Director Diana Castillo-Trejo what data they will provide in this important process:

Diana Castillo-Trejo - Acting Director General, SIB
"I think I can't, at this time, speak to all the assistance that we might be lending them. I know that they will want to look at the population data coming out of the Census. Our first count of the population data will be around the end of this year. We'll be publishing those. I know that they may also want some assistance with mapping, because, in preparation for the census, we have some extensive work on mapping, including the collection of data on building footprints for the entire country. So I believe that we would want some assistance on that. Beyond that, we just stand ready to assist wherever it is that we can lend some assistance to that activity."
