And while Barrow didn't argue it - a Bill introduced at Friday's House sitting is aimed at regulating Non-Governmental Organizations and Non-Profit Organization, and particularly their sources of funding.
But tonight there are howls of protest coming from the NGO community and non profits. A letter to Prime Minister John Briceno from Belize Network of NGO's says that there was no consultation. It says, quote, "the introduction of a NON-PROFIT ORGANISATIONS BILL, 2023 without any presentation or consultation whatsoever with Non-Governmental Organizations as well as all those entities who would be included in the definition of Non-Profit Organizations is contrary to good governance." End quote.
They ask that the consideration of the BILL, be delayed until meaningful consultations can be held.
