And if Shyne Barrow gets his way, constitutional reform will be televised.
Today the LOO told the press that he believes every Belizean has the right to know what is being discussed in the Commission's sessions at every stage of deliberations especially because the results of which are sure to affect the average citizen directly.
Today he encouraged the public to remain fully engaged in the process and to join him in demanding full transparency from the Commission.
Shyne Barrow, Leader Of The Opposition
"Yes, I did, I did insist to chairman Channona that this would be in the public interest because there should be no confidentiality in this engagement, this is our national constitution and any amendment as I said should be guided by those principles of protection of rights and expansion of rights and so we need to do this in the open."
"Such an undertaking, I pray and I plead with the Belizean public to stay engaged to make it their priority to know what is happening with this process every step of the way because you don't want in the genesis certain decisions will be made that will guide the rest of the process so by the time we get to public consultation or public education there is already a slant, there is already a direction that you know certain elements may want to go. This has to have full engagement from the public from the very beginning and I believe the best way to do that is to get the media houses to broadcast every constiton committee meeting and to have the government press office live stream every constitution commission meeting."
