And finally tonight….both major mass parties are gearing up the municipal elections in March of 2024. As we told you lats night, the PUP currently has 125 applications for both mayoral and councillor candidates.
But what about the UDP? We already know the mayoral candidate for the UDP Belize City slate, there's been no indication of potential candidates falling over each other to send in their applications. But according to the Leader of the Opposition, their slates for all municipalities are set, and the public will get to meet them next month.
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"We have already secured all of our mayoral and councillor candidates for the 9 municipalities and our candidates have been working. Obviously we have been dealing with September celebrations so we did not believe it was an appropriate time to do the launch so in the month of October, we will launch our slates, but our slates are all secured and we are ready to win. From PG to Corozal Town, to as you saw me tell the outgoing mayor of Belmopan City, all of her troubles, she will be relieved of come 2024 and even in Belize City. You know when we go through our internal skirmishes, the media covers it as they are right to do but I hope that we are giving maximum coverage to the civil war that is happening in the PUP as it relates to the Belize City Council, where there is one faction of the party that wants Bernard Wagner and another faction of the party led by Allan Pollard, that they are telling you, they don't want him, the city doesn't want him, that they need a change and they're absolutely right, but the change isn't from Wagner to Pollard but from the PUP to the UDP and Dr Nelma Jones and her slate are here to serve the people of Belize."
