In political news - the UDP saw another sad chapter in its long saga of ruin unfold on Saturday.

That was when the Shyne Barrow leadership had planned a National Party Council meeting - but without Tracy Panton and her supporters.

That led to an ugly showdown and open inter party warfare. Here's some of it:

Saturday in front of the UDP headquarters seemed to have started out peaceably enough - but there was trouble in the air. Tracy Panton and her reps were not invited to participate in the NPC - so her supporters set up a rally right beside the headquarters.

Tracy Panton, Leader of the Opposition
"And he wants to hijack the party and we said, no, it will not happen. You cannot seek to united a party when you exclude more than 50% of the persons who make up legitimately the membership movement of the National Party Council."

"It will not happen, it cannot happen, and we will not allow it to happen. And if we have to stay every day in court, that is what we are going to do."

Police presence was high - but all day long they would remain on the periphery - refusing to get into the fray.

Alberto August was the man of the hour - as acting Chairman he would preside over the controversial NPC.

This is where problems started when the UDP's from Tracy's camp who feel they should have a seat the NPC tried to get up into the headquarters conference room - but the gate was locked.

Eventually, they solved that problem by kicking open the. Door for WAVE radio which also leads upstairs

August stood outside, apparently bewildered as he is pictured here with the Albert representative on the NPC, Jose Uk Espat - as they tried to figure out a way to get up.

Godwin Haylock, Queen's Square Rep

"For example Jose Uk is now a member of the UDP in place of Tracy Panton. It's rea;;y horrible you know. I can't understand how a man that got 20 votes and lose in such a fashion would be speaking on behalf of the United Democratic Party."

Tracy Panton, Leader of the Opposition
"It's a tragedy what they continue to do to this party and they should be held to account."

Reporter
"How do you see this panning out at the end of the day?"

Godwin Haylock, Queen's Square Rep
"It's anybody's guess, that's all I'll say."

And it did not play out well, constant conflict and the threat of violence - even gun violence - and endless arguments within the UDP family:

Hours later, after the NPC meeting had to be aborted, Shyne Barrow left in his vehicle, and it was pelted with eggs.

And Tracy Panton emerged out of a surge in a rage.

Tracy Panton, Leader of the Opposition
"You will not punch me at all. You see how peaceful we have been? You see the thugs that they are?"

From there Panton went to address what had to be viewed as a disappointing crowd -

Tracy Panton, Leader of the Opposition
"We shall not be moved. We shall not yield to dictators."

A pyrrhic victory at best because Shyne Barrow still holds unto the leader chair

Shyne Barrow, UDP Leader
"Those are not the type of people that we want leading any political institution. Those are not the type of people that we would ever, heaven forbid. want to the prime minister of our country."

But, he said they will now have to try and hold another NPC meeting after this one failed:

Shyne Barrow, UDP Leader
"So the party chairman and the central executive and the national party council will proceed with another NPC here at our United Democratic Party Headquarters, so that we can bring the party together."

We'll see when the next attempt at an NPC is scheduled for. This is at least the third such meeting that has had to be rescheduled due to infighting.
