The hurricane season doesn’t start until June 1st – which is Sunday but tonight all eyes are on the tropics as the first storm of the Pacific hurricane season has formed. She’s called Alma and the good news is that she won’t make landfall on Belize. Still, forecasters say she could send more than a foot of rain our way. The storm is tracking along Central America’s Pacific Coast and made landfall in Managua Nicaragua at mid-day Belize time with winds of 65 miles per hour. She is expected to weaken but tropical storm warnings have been issued for Honduras and Salvador.
Again she poses no direct threat to Belize but the Met Service told 7NEWS that she is expected to dump buckets of rain beginning tomorrow and continuing through to Saturday. It should taper off by Sunday.
