The GST, the politicians who manage government's money call it the "God Send Tax," and the technicians who are fine tuning it call it the goods and services tax, but for consumers it might as well be V-A-T part 2.
For the past months, the Chamber of Commerce and the Business Bureau have been lobbying government to craft this new tax in a business friendly configuration. Today the Business Bureau announced that it has gotten the Prime Minister to commit to a single digit tax that is that the GST will be less than 10%. That's right where the sales tax mark is currently fixed but it is anticipated that unlike VAT or Sales Tax, the GST will have very few zero rated or exempted items.
