Venezuelan oil is in its way to Belize! On Sunday, Venezuela's national oil company, PDVSA, was expected to have sent off the first shipment of 15,000 barrels of diesel from Venezuela's Isla refinery in Curacao to Belize, according to a statement from PDVSA. This has not been confirmed or announced by the Belize government.
According to the PDVSA statement, the accord was signed on Friday by Asdrúbal Chávez, who is the Venezuelan President's brother and heads PDVSA's shipping arm PDV Marina, and Cresencio Sosa, CEO of Investment for Belize.
President Hugo Chavez' government has agreed to sell fuel directly to Belize and other Caribbean countries under the PetroCaribe initiative. The agreement requires participating countries to pay 60% in cash and allows them to finance the rest through long?term, low?interest loans. Venezuela, the world's fifth largest oil exporter, has said it will accept services and goods such as rice or bananas as partial payment.
Again, this has not been announced or confirmed by the GOB and comes in a statement form Venezuela's PDVSA.
