Mayor Zenaida Moya today confirmed that the Belize City Council is about to finalize re-negotiated agreements with Belize Maintenance Limited and Sanitation Enterprises Limited. Moya says after weeks of negotiations the council has been able to significantly cut the cost of contracts to both these companies. Moya says they are looking at cutting the SEL contract from $72,000 to $43,000 a week while they are trying to bring the BML contract from $46,000 to $28,000 per week.

These negotiations we will add are ongoing and there are no final contracts signed, but Moya says that her council is optimistic that both of these will be made final this week.

And while CITCO is able to cut down costs to the sanitation contracts they are also looking to secure the funds from the BTB. Moya told us that they are continuing negotiations with the BTB to have financing of up to a million dollars from them. While CITCO did not agree to the original structure of the financing Moya says they have been able to have amicable counteroffers to the BTB that will hopefully yield some positive outcome shortly.
